CHAPTER 16

By morning, Fenrir had her placed in his truck. He reached over and buckled her himself before pulling out of her driveway. She had packed enough clothing, snacks, and supplies to last for at least a couple of weeks. Her notebook where she drafted all her chapters stayed on her lap as she scribbled to pass the time.

As the hours drew on, the more relaxed Fenrir became. He played a variety of different kinds of rock music and banged on the steering wheel like drums, far different from his demeanor the night before.

Eventually, one of his hands reached over to grip her thigh. Violet wet her lips, loving the subtle ways his dominance came through. When she shifted away from him, he pulled her thigh closer, effectively keeping her knees apart.

Violet writhed in her seat. “You look like you’re planning something.”

“Just keeping my mate the way I like her.”

Her belly clenched as she bit her lip. “While you drive?”

“I can pull over somewhere.”

Violet shot him a look. “I will absolutely not do that with you on the side of the road!”

Fenrir grinned, flashing his teeth. “It’s okay, baby. I’ll just take you in the woods.”

He knew exactly what he did to her. She playfully crossed her arms before he kissed the back of her hand.

Minutes later, he glanced at the dash. “There’s a gas station coming up the road. I want you to get out and stretch.” His eyes drifted to her belly. Her ankles had not begun to swell yet, but she figured he was still worried about that.

“I feel alright.” She shrugged.

“You are stretching.”

Violet rolled her eyes at his stern order, but she wasn’t unsure he hadn’t noticed.

Fenrir pulled in at the pump, filling up the truck then plucking her from the seat. He held her in the air for a moment, anchoring her just below her bottom.

“I could do this all day.” He set her down, then pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Special snack requests?”

Violet suddenly felt ravenous. “Some crackers, lemon iced tea… oh, those little mini pies, and ice in a cup.” She preened, knowing full well the ridiculousness of her order.

He raised a brow. “Are those my sons talking, or their mother?”

“Both.”

Fenrir jogged inside, leaving her to stretch by the truck and crack her sore joints while she enjoyed the sunny weather.

“Violet!” A voice filled her space and she whipped around, only to be met with the blond head of Charlie running toward her.

Shit shit!

She stood up straight and adjusted her pullover. No one, not even Adam and Milo knew about the babies. She wasn’t ready for anyone to know.

“Hey, girlie, where have you been?” He immediately embraced her, but she recoiled at the smell of his cologne, and not just because of the pregnancy.

“Hey… good to see you.” She faked a smile, wishing she could make herself as small as possible.

“Adam and Milo told me you quit, that’s a bummer, sweetie! Why didn’t you call me? It’s the least you could do.” He smugly leaned against the truck.
